Freestanding tumble dryer by Hoover, model HLE C10DE-80 from the H-DRY 300 LITE range, with a CONDENSER drying system (not a heat pump) and a rated capacity of 10 kg. It declares energy class B on the A+++ to D scale, 671 kWh annual consumption, a 68 dB noise level and a 195-minute reference cycle. It measures 850 x 596 x 607 mm and offers sixteen programmes: cottons, synthetics, mixed loads, wool, denim, shirts, sports, whites, darks, automatic and iron-dry, among others.
When choosing a tumble dryer, look first at the system: condenser dryers are cheaper to buy and heat the air with an element, while heat-pump dryers reuse the heat of the cycle itself and use considerably less energy, in exchange for a higher starting price and longer cycles at a lower temperature, which treats fabrics more gently. Then compare the capacity in kilograms, the energy efficiency class and the consumption per cycle, the noise level, and whether drying is controlled by a humidity sensor or by a timer. The appliance needs an earthed 220-240 V socket and, if it is a condenser or heat-pump model, the water tank has to be emptied or the drain connected; vented models also need an air outlet to the outside.
